WHAT DOES IT TREAT?

DIAGUS 1&2 is used to treat type 2 diabetes or high blood sugar. This medication could be used alone or in combination with insulin.

MODE OF ACTION

DIAGUS 1 & 2 supplies glimepiride which increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas and thus helps the body utilize insulin more efficiently. It is used when diet, exercise and weight control have failed to control blood sugar levels on their own.

Metformin contained in this product lessens the release of glucose from the liver, resulting in lower blood sugars. It increases your sensitivity to insulin and decreases the amount of glucose that is absorbed from the food you eat.

HOW TO USE?

Take this medication by mouth, once daily. Use it at the same time each day for better results. Contact your doctor for information on the dosage to be followed. Do not crush or chew but swallow whole tablets.

POSSIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS

The common side- effects are:Nausea/vomiting,Stomach upset,Diarrhea Tiredness,Metallic taste in the mouth

The serious side-effects are

Low blood sugar levels,the symptoms of which are:

  • Sweating
  • Pounding heartbeat
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness /tingling in the hands or feet
  • Hunger
  • Trembling
  • Confusion

High blood sugar levels, the symptoms which are:

  • Excessive thirst
  • Increase in the amount of urine produced
  • Drowsiness
  • Flushing of the face
  • Fruity smell of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Easy bruising

CHECK IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC

Inform your doctor if you have or had similar medical conditions:

  • Genetic blood disorder
  • Hormone disorder
  • Heart, kidney or liver disease
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Breathing problems
  • Dehydration

KEEP IN MIND

  • DIAGUS 1&2 is not recommended to treat type 1 diabetes.
  • Carry a glucose tablet or a quick source of sugar like a candy or an orange juice to boost your sugar levels when it suddenly goes too low.
  • Do not skip meals and follow the same time each day for all your meals.
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages should be limited, since it brings down the blood sugar levels considerably.
  • Stress due to fever, surgery or infection bothers the efficacy of the treatment with DIAGUS 1&2.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sun while using this drug.
  • Aged patients have greater risk of developing low blood sugar levels while taking this medicine.
  • This medication might cause some changes in your menstrual cycle and there is increased chance to get pregnant. Consult with your doctor to get information on reliable birth control measures.
  • Pregnant women should not use this medication without medical advice. Talk with your doctor before taking DIAGUS 1&2, if you nurse your child.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Do not take this medication with any other anti- diabetic drug.

DIAGUS1 &2 should be taken four hours before taking the drug colesevelam.

Certain quinolone antibiotics, blood pressure and heart drugs, antifungals and thiazide diuretics interact with this drug:

Other drugs that bring out negative effects of DIAGUS 1& 2 are the ones that are used to treat the following conditions:

  • Eye infections
  • High cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Low blood sugar
  • Tuberculosis
  • Depression

DIAGUS 1& 2 is also known to interact with drugs that contain salicylate and sulfonamide.

DID YOU MISS IT?

Have your missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it is already time for the next one, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Doubling or taking extra doses can be fatal.
